A New Take On Being Environmental

“Environment is the invisible hand that shapes our behavior” ~James Clear
Dinner on a Sardinian vineyard with my new friends: people from Costa Rica, Germany and Spain. What fun conversations we had (thankfully in English)!
Hey friends,
Why do you like to travel?
One of the reasons I love to travel is to immerse myself in new environments. I love to meet new people, try different food, and observe different ways of life. I love the expansive effect this has on my mind and spirit. Recently, in Sardinia, I was struck by how many people simply enjoyed conversation over their morning cappuccinos, without the distraction of technology. It was a powerful reminder of how essential genuine connection & conversation is for our well-being and our growth.
Another gift of travel is the opportunity to soak in breathtaking natural landscapes. In Sardinia, I hiked amidst 360-degree views of mountains and untouched land. The beauty and sweetness of the blooming flowers filled me with awe. With just a deep breath of those floral scents, the winds off the mountain or the sea breeze my worries were instantly transformed, bringing me back into balance and harmony. I think Rumi said “Awe is the salve that will heal our eyes.” Nature has a way of delivering the exact medicine we need every time, nourishing us on a soul level.
What environments leave you feeling most inspired and alive?
How often do you prioritize spending time in nature?
Environment can also have the opposite effect. In my years of working as a consultant, this was one of the hardest aspects to conquer with clients. Environments that seemed to suck the life out of its employees seemed to block any progress attempts. If we are not the architects of our environments, we often become the victims of them. No matter how strong an individual's will for change, repeated exposure to less than desirable environments ends up changing the individual rather than the individual changing the environment.
Living in our Genius zone requires that we take ownership of our environment. This has been a pivotal step for me in my own journey. One of my revelations during my sabbatical was that in order to offer the work I'm passionate about, I needed to immerse people in change conducive environments even if just for a day– one that reflects back the essence of what is desired. This is why nature retreats are so powerful and why getting out of our normal routines is essential for making big shifts. When we change what we see, we see new things.
Are there any environments in your life that are draining your energy or hindering your growth?
If you're looking to expand and challenge the status quo, remember that a new environment can be a crucial catalyst. When immersed in nurturing, inspiring, and peaceful environments, we naturally attune to that energy. This is why joining groups can be so powerful for personal growth, especially when you're surrounded by people who spark new ideas and challenge your paradigms. I like to remember the quote that "You're the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
Who are the five people you spend the most time with? How do they influence you?
Are there any new people or groups you could connect with to expand your horizons and support your growth?
So, my challenge for us right now as we are in Gemini season is to evaluate your environment.
Does your environment support the becoming of your Genius self? Are there areas that need a tweak to allow you to thrive?
Then become the architect of your life and design the best environment for you! Go sit in new places, strike up conversations with strangers, invite a new friend for coffee, read a new book.
I have a couple offerings that can help you with this. My free "Lose your baggage" virtual soulful gathering will allow us to release some energetic weight and open to new possibilities. My 21-day "Passport to Perspective" program will guide you through practices to see your life in new ways. This program includes a private portal where we can all interact and share discoveries!
Here is a link to a practice for soulful traveling without leaving your home. This gives you a sample of the insightful tools we'll be using over the 21 days.
Gemini season encourages us to connect, learn, adapt, be curious, and change our minds! Let’s travel together and let our environments work for us, not against us!
With love and dedication to staying environmentally focused,
Jill
