Illuminating the "Fire" Element through astrology

In my years as a professional working with individuals in my many hats, I often witness the struggles many of us face in finding one’s purpose and knowing what we want in life, connecting to one’s creativity and unique gifts, discerning one’s truth, and cultivating the courage to take meaningful risks. Probably the most common question I get when working with individuals is “ Am I on the right track to reach my potential for why I am here? Many people feel caught in the hum drum of life and seek joy and a feeling of aliveness or vitality. Without it we can ask “Is this really all life has to offer?”. This leads us right to the element of fire and its core function in our lives. Fire is one of the elements found in nature and in astrological terms one of the 4 elements contained within your astrological birth chart. I want to share the gifts of this element and how it can work practically in your life. I also want to provide ways in which imbalances of this element can affect us. My hope is after reading this you will be able to gut check how large a flame your fire is for you currently.

Let’s break it down piece by piece so you can assess how well your fire element is functioning in your daily life!

What are the actions of fire: Think of it in terms of the actual element as seen in nature, It literally burns things up with its transformative qualities (think forest fires). If not controlled it can quickly get out of hand and destroy. It is intense & powerful (think of the sun) and with its warmth it heats us up and allows for growth (we need sunlight and warmth for plants ) It illuminates and lights our way (think of candles in the night).

How does it look in daily life: “Come on baby light my fire” as the Doors sang gives us a great intro. Fire gives us the “get up and go” juice, its like your caffeine for getting out of bed every day. It is what fuels us to not give up and to go for it. “Just do it”. It gives us vision and inspiration, “You fail because you don’t believe” said Yoda. Fire lights us up inside and warms our hearts. It connects us to passion, romance, eros and our creative gifts. It is the intuition from your gut that lead us out of danger and lead us onward and forward along the path aligning us with our truth. “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you love. It will not lead you astray. “ Rumi

Gifts of Fire: Knowing who you are (identity), courage, confidence, enthusiasm, joy, contentment, vision, intuition, vitality, transformation, digestion, body temperature maintenance, mental clarity, creativity, passion, generosity, alignment with truth

Imbalances (too much or too little fire): indigestion, fatigue, depression, confusion, excess fear, anger , anxiety & aggression, burn-out, over active appetite, sleep issues, low libido, apathy

How it relates to astrology: The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius and they each have a unique motivational aim. Everyone has these 4 elements in their chart and these 3 archetypes contained within their chart and their constitution. Aries (ruled by Mars) is the warrior spirit that gives us that pioneering spirt to fight the battles we must fight in order to generate courage and assert our desires. Leo, the lion with heart, yearns to express itself creatively and to seek that which lights up our heart so that we feel joy, passion and a zest for light. Leo is ruled by the sun. Jupiter ruled Sagittarius , the Sage, leads us on a vision quest to define the deeper meaning of life for ourselves so that we can expand ourselves and our view for the vision of who we are on a larger level, that which aligns us with the intuition of our Truth. All these archetypes give us motivations and the planets provide a basic psychological function in our lives. If one of them is hidden we feel cold and in need of the warmth of that aspect of fire. If one of them gets over emphasized then we run out of gas or burn ourselves up.

Questions to explore to check in with your fire:

Mars/Aries: Do I know what motivates me, what I want in life? Am I willing to make choices despite the risk to go after what I want? Do my action align with my desires?

Sun/Leo: What gives me joy, do I feed my fun tank regularly? How does my creativity show up in my life? How do I less myself be seen as my unique self?

Jupiter/Sagittarius: Do I take time for the deep work to ask questions that help me search for greater purpose for life? Do I have a vision of what will allow me to grow and expand what I think is possible for my life?

How to cultivate more fire: Join me for a weekend immersion called “Ignite your fire” where we will explore this together March 20-22, 2020. . More information here.
