Full Moon in Cancer 2020 Message

  • 1422 SE Marion St Portland, OR 97202 United States (map)

Tuesday, December 29th at 7:28 pm PST is our last full moon of 2020 and what better way to exit this intensely emotional year than with a Cancer full moon! All our “feels” from old surface to be felt and experienced deeply. With Capricorn energy (our current solar cycle), we are often able to hide our tenderness and put on the tough face but tonight offers us a chance for healing and rejuvenation if we can let some of our vulnerability out. The Capricorn cycle is often associated with accomplishments and goals and the perseverance required to “climb” to the top of the mountain. We often short side this “mountain” by only associating it with work or the external world’s definition of recognition. Some look at our work (job) as our dharma (or our soul’s duty or calling in this life). So we spend lots of our energy searching for the right job, or approval with our actions, and we may even go so far as to define ourselves through the world’s eyes. It is true that the evolutionary function of this energy (Capricorn) for all of us to put in the necessary dedication, commitment and effort we need to in this life to rise above the obstacles we encounter in order to find the inner steadiness and resolve within us we reach the peaks that we are destined to climb but the key to our ascent is found in Cancer (the polar sign of Capricorn). We are not meant to summit mountains devoid of emotional attunement. For it is exactly the rich experience of engaging with all the emotions that we find along the route that help us carve out our backbone and depth of our inner resilience. Truly showing up to feel and relate to whatever arises in life is our dharma. So that can mean our dharma is a challenging relationship, a pandemic, loss, battles we never expected and even blessings offered to us freely without request. Our dharma can at times be intense and hardly bearable and other times boring and uninteresting. The only way to honestly and truly show up is with our emotional, tender and vulnerable aspects of ourselves and feel each octave of every single experience with as much awareness and interest as we do the thrills that we seek. For when we relate to our life with this amount of honesty we find true shelter in the deepest presence, our true self. Not the self society tells us we are, not the story our failures and accomplishes tell of us, and not the mirrored response of others but the realness of each moment in how we are alive in our life.

So on this Cancer moon, tend to your soft parts. Let it be ok to feel exactly what you feel. Move with it, let the tears flow, write about it, offer it to the sky, caress it in your heart, be as you are. Honor these feelings as part of the journey and let the the deep presence you create for yourself be a testament to the real work that you are doing to live out your dharma by showing up to life just as it as just as you are.

Happy full moon friends
