The dark side of the moon

The weather in Portland seems to be bipolar and quite honestly I cannot think of a better mirror for the energies of the time. At times we are hot and on fire just like the weather. We are experiencing the Sun conjunct Venus in Gemini and there are opportunities, possibilities and an invitation to be adaptable. Saturn in Sagittarius is leading us towards truth, maturity and finding our path. Uranus in Aries is liberating us, freeing our deepest desires and what we need on a personal level so that we go for it and not be held back by the past limitations. Then the next day, the fire is gone and the rains come and we feel Chiron in Pisces bringing us back to our wounds of separation, the ways in which we cut ourselves off from spirit, oneness and connection through the self sabotage of our unconscious ways. Mars creeps his way in through Scorpio dredging up the past, the unconscious fears that stop us in our tracks and allow us to feel powerless. Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio adds power to the punch of Mars allowing us to hide from the power that is hidden in our pain through our self rejections and judgements. As if this isn't enough, Neptune in Pisces squares Saturn sobering us to all the ways we have created fascinating stories to stay asleep at the wheel. It has helped us paint our glasses whatever color we could fathom so that we can continue feeding the stories that karmically we are in habit of telling never mind if they are true or not. This is a heavy, deep time. Events like in Orlando are not surprising seeing how we are a society that does not deal well with pain, contraction, shadow..the dark. We can be a bit addicted to the light, to  false expansion, the highs of going only up but nature teaches a different story...

"Everything under heaven is a sacred vessel and cannot be controlled. Trying to control leads to ruin. Trying to grasp, we lose. Allow your life to unfold naturally. Know that it too is a vessel of perfection. Just as you breathe in and breathe out, there is a time for being ahead and a time for being behind; a time for being in motion and a time for being at rest; a time for being vigorous and a time for being exhausted; a time for being safe and a time for being in danger. To the sage all of life is a movement toward perfection, so what need has he for the excessive, the extravagant, or the extreme? 29th verse of the Tao Te Ching

Nature teaches us about cycles. We are in a time of great change. Death is occurring, to many aspects of our lives be it physically or relationally. We can resist it but it will continue none the less and we will grow more weary fighting it than flowing with it. We can try to balance the contraction that death brings by forcing ourselves to rise up, to grasp for the light, all things positive and pleasant but this is simply a hidden way to reject the dark and resistance to contraction. I think the message of this time is to let go and allow the cycle to run its course. When exhaustion comes, we cannot run from it by forcing vigor. We meet exhaustion despite how uncomfortable and undesirable we may see it. We remind ourselves that this too is nature and this is also part of the perfection that the mind cannot understand or place. We allow ourselves to fully experience exhaustion until the resistance fades and we have met and fully known exhaustion. Once we do it the fear of it and the power held in the fear is released. An inner light is created.  One that no longer fears exhaustion. Then we can meet and welcome vigor as the cycle continues to flow. We will learn that neither are the goal nor the enemy but faces of the same coin. Just as we need to breathe in, we must breathe out. Just as we expand and rise and unfurl towards the light, at times in this expansion of our consciousness we will need to contract and allow the old to die and be regenerated. We will need to soften into the contraction to allow it truly have its timely presence in our lives. Although we are in the brink of summer and one week before the Summer Solstice, I find we are in a deeply yin and contracted time. Still we find Mars, Saturn, Pluto and now Neptune in retrograde guiding us towards reflection and a slowing down of the pacing of our life. We have Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio along with Mars and this is the underworld, the place of death and dark. It is isn't happy, all smiles with a side of butterflies and rainbows but it is damn potent medicine, powerful alchemy. Transformation is not the easy path. It is simply the only path to evolution. Nothing that expands can stay the same. We are all expanding. We are all connected. We are all part of nature. With the dominance of air element now we can be in our minds, we can try to reason it out, understand it all. This will only stall the allowing. When the rains come, and we know they do, allow them to cleanse and restore your water, your emotions. Feel, flow with the natural cycles. Be where you are. Truly surrender to what is present. If you find yourself needing to rest, then rest fully. If you find yourself needing to cry then let the tears flow. If you find yourself frustrated, angry, confused...then let it in and let go of the resistance. As Rumi states, in his poem "The Guest House", "be grateful for whomever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond. " Our pain is often our wisest teacher. Our anger is here to clear us from all falsity. Our grief is here to break down the walls of our hearts. As much as anyone, I love an inspiring , positive message. I hope that the inspiration of this message is not found in the spinning away from the dark, but in the space held by allowing us all to flow through this deep and powerful cycle together. I pray we can hold space for each other and to hold the light within ourselves  and for each other in love. Love never distinguishes separation but holds all as equal and worthy. Whether you are contracting or expanding you are of love and worthy of love. Together we can hold the light, for everyone trying to make their way through the necessary cycle of dark.
